Newry, Maine (March 27, 2010) - Amateur freeskier, Alex Schlopy from Park City, Utah, may have proved that he has what it takes to be a pro thanks to a first place finish today at Sunday River's second annual Dumont Cup. This is the first time an amateur has ever won the Dumont Cup during the event's two-year history.

Schlopy out-skied 105 amateur athletes yesterday to gain entry into today's semi-finals and finals. During finals, Schlopy and nine others competed against such freeski professionals as Simon Dumont, Peter Olenik, Jossi Wells, and Henrik Harlaut.

During the finals, Schlopy launched himself off of Sunday River'’s 85-foot jump during one of his last three tries and pulled a switch right double cork 1440 to earn him top seat.

Schlopy is joined on the podium with Joss Christianson from Park City, Utah who took second place and the 2009 winner of the first-ever Dumont Cup, Tom Wallisch from Salt Lake City, Utah, who took third.

Schlopy walks away with $12,000 in cash plus a one-week scholarship to Camp Woodward, an action sports camp and training facility located in Woodward, Penn. Second place wins $5,000 and third place, $3,000.

World Record Holder and X Games Gold Medalist, Simon Dumont, Hosts 2nd Annual Dumont Cup At Sunday River!
Professional freeskiers Simon Dumont, Tom Wallisch, TJ Schiller, Peter Olenick and Jossi Wells come to Sunday River to compete with the East's best amateur athletes.

Newry, Maine (January 26, 2010) - It took a mountain to build X Games gold medalist and world record holder, Simon Dumont, and now that mountain - Sunday River - and Dumont are working together on the 2nd Annual Dumont Cup scheduled for March 26-27, 2010, where a new freeskier will reign supreme.

"I want to create a signature event for amateur skiers on the East Coast that allows them to compete with the professional athletes they idolize," said Dumont. "The Dumont Cup tests the talents of both professionals and amateurs while showcasing the East."

Dumont, along with professional freeskiers: Tom Wallisch, TJ Schiller, Peter Olenick and Jossi Wells, will mentor, compete and judge skiers on a slopestyle course located in Rocking Chair Terrain Park designed by Dumont himself.

$20,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs for first, second and third place finishers. First place also receives a one-week scholarship to Camp Woodward, an action sports camp and training facility located in Woodward, Pennsylvania.

Qualifiers are held in two sessions on Friday, March 26 from 10 - 4:30 p.m. and determine the top 40 amateurs sent to semi-finals on Saturday.

During the semi-finals and finals, professional and amateurs skiers compete side-by-side. Judges determine the top three overall winners as well as a stand-out amateur from the two-day competition.

The Dumont Cup is open to 150 competitors - twice the size of last year's field. Registration is $100 and includes a lift ticket.
